Select Legal Systems Limited are pleased to announce that the ‘Making Tax Digital’ functionality they have built into the LAWFUSION, their legal practice management system for law firms, has been demonstrated to HMRC and has passed their checks. This means the company is now a recognised ‘Making Tax Digital’ VAT Software Supplier and its law firm users will be able to post VAT returns digitally direct from LAWFUSION in line with the April 2019 deadline.

HMRC opened up their ‘Making Tax Digital’ VAT pilot to public beta testing on 16 October, to allow sufficient testing time before businesses are mandated to use the system in April next year. However, there was a backlog of software suppliers waiting for HMRC to review prototypes and Select Legal were in that queue.

Now that HMRC has seen and passed the LAWFUSION ‘MTD’ functionality, Select Legal clients should speak to their Account Manager to make arrangements for the upgrade, before they sign up for beta testing. Of course, HMRC are not catering for EU transactions as yet, so this too will be a consideration of law firms before they can sign up for the HMRC pilot.


There is no going back once organisations have signed up for the HMRC beta testing pilot, so firms should make sure they have that conversation with their account manager before they do.
