Tanfields Solicitors are based in the West Midlands and have been in practice since 1914. They have a mixed portfolio of work, including Conveyancing, Probate, Family Law, Crime, Immigration and Civil Litigation. They provide a variety of legal services that focus on individuals rather than commercial organisations.
Tanfields are one of Select Legal's long established clients, converting in 1995 from Iris (AIM) onto a Unix based system. Over the years Tanfields have regularly reviewed their IT requirements and gradually moved to a Microsoft Windows Server environment. In 2007, in order to reduce and simplify the administration over the network, Tanfields decided to move to a complete Windows environment and chose Windows 2003 Small Business Server to replace an existing Windows 2000 Server and Database Server. The existing database was automatically converted to Microsoft SQL Server as part of this process.
Tanfields use all modules of Select Legal's LAWFUSION™ software, including Accounts, Time Recording and Case Management for Conveyancing. They currently have 35 users of the system.
Keith Amos, Conveyancing Manager, explains why they chose LAWFUSION™ for their IT system. “We initially chose LAWFUSION™ because of the excellent track record of the two Directors of Select Legal Systems (Mike Craven and Steve Dixon), as I have worked with them for several years before they formed Select Legal Systems.”
Keith has been trained on how to customise the Case Management Workflow and has made many other changes to ensure that the system fits in with Tanfield's way of working. “We have found the system to be very reliable and easy to use and, what I really like about the system, is the flexibility.”

The software has really saved us time on each conveyancing transaction and it has risk management advantages also. It probably keeps me at my desk too long because I am always finding new ways to use the system! It just makes life so much easier.”
Keith goes onto explain that there are many other useful features of the system. These include the ability to automatically link to external Web sites, such as Searchflow an electronic conveyancing search service, saving them valuable time. Another feature is the ability to drag and drop e-mails directly onto cases and to send e-mails from the case.
