Morgan Denton Jones is a niche legal practice, that concentrates solely on Employment Law and Human Resources. Following extensive research, they selected LAWFUSION™ as their core IT provider.
Anna Denton, a partner at the firm, talks us through the ways in which LAWFUSION™ has helped their practice grow.
We market-tested a number of the suppliers endorsed each year by the Law Society, as we had no allegiance to any particular products. All of us were impressed by the capability of LAWFUSION™ and how it could improve our working lives. We found Select Legal Systems to be genuinely willing to work with us and eager to develop the software so that it works the way we want. Moreover, since installation, this has remained the case.
Many providers can provide workflow for other types of legal practice but no-one could really offer us what we needed (employment law).
Our aim is to apply for Lexcel accreditation so it was important that LAWFUSION™ could tick the boxes in that regard and also reassure us that risk management tools are deployed throughout the product as well as those we have built in ourselves.
The ability to tailor the system to our needs and ways of working and to make changes quickly has always been a priority.
LAWFUSION™ has enabled us to become more efficient, for example, letters and other documents are quickly created in our house style, with the text we want in them directly from our precedents.
It has encouraged improved fee earner file management. For example, emails sent and received are transferred onto the file.
Also, areas of risk are better managed. For example, money laundering checks and client care letters are less likely to be “missed” because of system of reminders.
We also like the fact we can work on our own enhancements to the product without having to use up support and maintenance time, although Select are always at the end of the telephone if we need them.
LAWFUSION™ has enabled us to replicate our paper files on screen. If someone had taken the paper file out to Court, someone at the office still has access to all the relevant information such as an address book of all the relevant contacts on the file, a copy of all case notes, correspondence and documents created on the file and the ability to see what the last steps taken on the file were.
Just having a case management system in our specialism (employment law) is unusual. We are still finding new features 6 months down the line, especially in the accounts module. It’s probably easier to define what the system can’t do!
We are very pleased with the system. You can always think of better ways to do things so the system allows you to work towards achieving that.
