Bridge McFarland Solicitors is a top 250 law firm, based in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, with a regional and national reputation across the spectrum of legal services. The firm serves private clients, acts on behalf of numerous businesses and commercial organisations and is a major provider of publicly funded work through the Legal Services Commission.
Helen Cornford, IT Manager, manages all of the IT functions of the firm on a day to day operational basis. She is also largely responsible for the development and implementation of new and existing systems. Below she outlines some of the benefits of the system and the difference it has made to the firm.
Bridge McFarland converted from Aim Charter II in 1996 to Select Legal's Unix based, legal software suite, LAWFUSION™. They currently have 7 branches with 200 users all using the product. More recently they have moved onto a full Microsoft Windows solution, using SQL Server for the database, Exchange Server for email, Terminal Services for branch access and Active Directory for user setup and security. All the hardware and software has been installed and configured by Select Legal.
Their accounts system is fully integrated to Case Management and they currently have 8 to 9 account users accessing a common diary system.
The introduction of Case Management, initially into Conveyancing, has brought a greater standardisation of documentation and procedures, resulting in improved client care and less time spent on duplication of effort.
Users find the Fee Earner Desktop diary an essential part of their day to day procedure. Select Legal are shortly implementing an upgrade that will enable users to send electronic cheque requests to the Accounts Department who will then be able to accept/reject them and auto post them. This will be an extremely useful function as we have a centralised accounts department at our Lincoln office.
We are also very pleased with the wide range of features that LAWFUSION™ has to offer. There are still many features that we currently do not use but we plan to introduce new areas to users during the course of the year.
We have recently had a demonstration of some of the major changes that will be released later this year including the changes with the contacts database and the general look of the product. We were very impressed with these changes and are looking to the upgrade.
